While composing music for a Fred Astaire film in Hollywood, Gershwin began a project he had long had in mind: adding voices and lyrics to his most famous composition, Rhapsody in Blue. However, Gershwin's tragically early death in 1937 left this arrangement unfinished. This long lost version remained incomplete until Dr. Michael Fennelly discovered and reconstructed Gershwin's sketches. Now, after nearly a century, we can hear Rhapsody in Blue performed as Gershwin finally intended.
